NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – Six different New Paltz swimmers won individual events, as the State University of New York at New Paltz women's swimming team (3-1) downed cross-river rival Vassar College (1-2-1), 110-87, Saturday afternoon at Elting Pool.
Senior
Allison Wells (Shelton, Conn.) was the lone double-event winner individually in the women's meet, clocking the top standard in the 50 freestyle and the 100 backstroke. She registered a 25.74 in the 50 freestyle, which stood more than half a second better than the second-place competitor, and stopped the clock at 1:04.71 in the 100 backstroke.

Marissa Morris (Toms River, N.J.) cruised to a 2:01.64 win, and, after Wells won the 50 freestyle, sophomore
Carly Marshall (Cornwall, N.Y.) led a 1-2 New Paltz finish in the 400 individual medley just before the first break with a 4:53.06.
The Hawks swept the 100 butterfly, as Suzuka, senior
Lori Brown (Hauppauge, N.Y.) and junior
Amanda Cloer (Stony Point, N.Y.) finished in sequence. Suzuka took the event in 1:04.19. Junior
Christine Rieth (Penfield, N.Y.) went an event-best 55.42 in the 100 freestyle before Wells passed Sam Jones from Vassar in the final 50 to claim the 100 backstroke.
New Paltz's entries in the 500 freestyle, the 100 breaststroke and the 200 freestyle relay were all exhibition. Senior
Jessica Lester (Long Beach, N.Y.) provided the fastest time in the 500 freestyle at 5:24.61, while Baker touched first in the 100 breaststroke (1:10.48). The contingent of sophomore
Katina Lown (Bohemia, N.Y.), junior
Allie Moorhead (Marcy, N.Y.), Lester and Rieth covered the 200 freestyle relay in an event-best 1:45.07. None of those swims factored into the final team scoring.
Vassar's Burns and Shannon Sara scored first-place points in the 500 freestyle (5:31.69) and the 100 breaststroke (1:13.99), respectively.
The Hawks will hone their training over the next few weeks toward the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships, which will run from Dec. 3-5 at Nassau County Aquatics Center in East Meadow, N.Y.
