Box Score

NEW PALTZ, N.Y.
– The State University of New York at New Paltz men's soccer team (5-4-0, 2-1 SUNYAC) fell to the Fredonia Blue Devils (3-6-0, 2-1 SUNYAC) in a State University of New York Athletic Conference matchup, 1-0, held Saturday afternoon on Alumni Field.

In the 16th minute, junior midfielder Tommy Garafola (Richmond Hill, N.Y.) sent a through ball to sophomore forward Harrison Lane (Glenmont, N.Y.), who uncorked a shot just right of the goal.

The Hawks nearly struck again in the 24th minute when junior forward Jimmy Altadonna (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) fired a shot, which was saved by the diving Blue Devil goalkeeper. Three minutes later, Altadonna unleashed a shot that was saved by a Fredonia defender, extinguishing the scoring chance.

Junior goalkeeper Thomas Viscardi (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) made a brilliant save in the 29th minute when Fredonia's Peter Dagel was on a fast break and ripped a shot from inside the box.

Three minutes into the second half, Fredonia nearly netted a goal when Eli Lubberts's shot missed the right post.

Luke Tylutki put Fredonia on the board in the 57th minute when he found the back of the net, giving the Blue Devils a 1-0 advantage.

The Hawks continued to battle in Blue Devil territory. Senior forward Michael Ackerman (Castleton, N.Y.) knocked a ball inches from the left post off a New Paltz corner. However, the Hawks would not prevail as Fredonia earned the victory, 1-0.

The Hawks outshot Fredonia, 16-9, and held a 10-4 edge in corners on the day.

In between the posts for the Blue Devils, Bobby McGinnis compiled four saves on the afternoon.

Viscardi collected three stops in net for the blue and orange in 90 minutes of play.

New Paltz returns to action when it travels to The College at Brockport on Friday, October 1st. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
