NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz women's soccer team (11-5-2, 6-2-1 SUNYAC) clinched a first-round bye in the 2011 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Women's Soccer Championship Tournament with a tie, 2-2, versus Buffalo State (6-9-2, 1-6-2 SUNYAC) on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Field in New Paltz's Senior Day. This served as the Hawks' regular-season finale.

With the tie, the Hawks guaranteed their position in the SUNYAC Championship Tournament, locking up the No. 2 seed behind SUNY Cortland. The Hawks will play their first SUNYAC Championship Tournament matchup on Wednesday, Nov. 2, at Alumni Field against the winner of the Oct. 29 quarterfinal game between third-seeded SUNY Fredonia and sixth-seeded The College at Brockport.

Junior midfielder Beth Bowling (Islip, N.Y./Islip) was involved in two second-half goals that helped the Hawks erase a 2-0 halftime deficit.

Junior forward Samantha Abravanel (Islip, N.Y./Islip) connected on a pass from Bowling inside the box at 68:44 and drove it into the top of the net to cut Buffalo State's lead in half. Bowling drilled a shot of her own into the back of the net in the 78th minute off a rebound inside the box to knot the game up at two.

The Bengals jumped out to an early lead when forward Meghan Allen beat sophomore goalkeeper Stephanie Vega (Oceanside, N.Y./Baldwin Senior) from the left side at 14:45. Buffalo State increased its lead to 2-0 with midfielder Tina Boberskyj's goal in the 27th minute off a free kick by defender Jordan Dudish.

In a hard fought game, both teams were even at 18 shots apiece, with New Paltz having the advantage in corner kicks, 5-3.

Vega stopped six shots in the contest, with five of her saves coming in the second half.

Prior to the match, the Hawks honored their pair of seniors, defender Shannon Cobb (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Arlington) and midfielder Alexa Balestrieri (Massapequa Park, N.Y./Massapequa).
