Six Different Swimmers Capture Individual Events in Men's Swimming's 126-79 Triumph over Oswego

NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – Six different swimmers won individual events for the Hawks, as the State University of New York at New Paltz men's swimming team (2-3) topped SUNY Oswego (1-3) by a 126-79 final on Saturday afternoon at Elting Pool.

The 200 medley relay team of seniors Jesse Sweeney (East Lyme, Conn./East Lyme), Pete Nastasi (Monroe, N.Y./Monroe-Woodbury), Ray Amato (Scotia, N.Y./Burnt Hills) and Corey Lomas (Wilbraham, Mass./Minnechaug Regional) kicked off the meet with a 1:40.28 victory, overcoming a swift backstroke leg by Oswego's Jordan Prophet.

Freshman Lucas Rusinak (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Peter's Boys) set the pace in the 1,000 freestyle from the first 50 on, as he won by nearly half a minute with a time of 10:26.57. Senior Marc Battisti (East Meadow, N.Y./East Meadow) touched first in the 200 individual medley (2:09.07) to give the Hawks momentum heading into the first break.

Amato led a 1-2 New Paltz finish in the 100 butterfly, covering the four-lap stroke event in 55.92. The Hawks went 1-2 once again in the 100 freestyle, with Lomas providing the top time of 49.79. Sweeney won by just more than a three-second margin in the 100 backstroke (56.27), and Nastasi provided New Paltz's final individual victory of the day in the 100 breaststroke (1:02.76).

Senior Jeremy Borrelli (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal), Amato, Sweeney and Lomas partnered up in the meet's last event, the 200 freestyle relay, and clocked the winning time of 1:29.24.

Second-place performances came from Nastasi in the 200 freestyle (1:48.43), Borrelli in the 50 freestyle (22.95) and 100 freestyle (49.93), freshman Michael Lacroce (Palmyra, Pa./Palmyra) in the 100 butterfly (57.52) and Rusinak in the 500 freestyle (5:02.17).

Prophet was the meet's lone double-event winner, as he finished first in both the 200 freestyle (1:48.43) and the 500 freestyle (4:56.97) for the Lakers.

New Paltz visits cross-river rival Vassar College next on Saturday, Nov. 19, for a 1 p.m. dual meet.
