NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – Four different Hawk swimmers won two individual events, leading the State University of New York at New Paltz women's swimming team (3-1) to a 143-114 victory over the U.S. Coast Guard Academy (0-1) on Saturday afternoon at Elting Pool. The meet served as the Hawks' 2011-12 home opener.

New Paltz was impressive even in spite of coming off a meet against SUNY Oneonta less than 24 hours prior, and the Hawks' top swimmers all came up big.

Sophomore Chelsea Allocco (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) doubled up the field in the 1,000 freestyle and the 500 freestyle, covering the races in 11:05.11 and 5:22.51, respectively. Junior Yuka Suzuka (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Yorktown) took both backstroke events, clocking a 1:01.18 100 backstroke before turning in a 2:12.56 in the 200 backstroke. Junior Carly Marshall (Cornwall, N.Y./Cornwall Central) reigned supreme in the butterfly events, touching first in the 200 butterfly (2:16.03) and the 100 butterfly (1:02.59), while senior Christine Rieth (Penfield, N.Y./Webster Schroeder) was impressive in the two sprint freestyle events, charting an event-winning 24.62 in the 50 freestyle before recording a 53.32 in the 100 freestyle.

Both Hawk relays finished first as well. Suzuka, junior Katina Lown (Bohemia, N.Y./Connetquot), Marshall and Rieth teamed up for a 1:53.05 performance in the 200 medley relay, while Rieth reeled in Coast Guard's anchor swimmer in the 400 freestyle relay to give New Paltz the top time of 3:45.00. That relay, which was marked as exhibition, was also comprised of Lown, freshman Katherine Buyes (Wappingers Falls, N.Y./John Jay) and sophomore Victoria Scalise (Rochester, N.Y./Brighton).

Runner-up performances came from Allocco in the 200 freestyle (2:00.56), junior Anna Jakubek (Harriman, N.Y./Monroe-Woodbury) in the 100 breaststroke (1:14.89), Lown in the 50 freestyle (26.06) and Scalise in the 200 backstroke (2:22.22).

The Bears had one double-event winner in Terri Jozsa, who won both breaststroke events. She captured the 100 breaststroke in 1:13.12 before uncorking a first-place 2:33.72 in the 200 breaststroke.

The Hawks return to action on Saturday, Nov. 12, at 1 p.m., as they square off against SUNY Oswego at Elting Pool.
