Meet Results

NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz women's swimming team (6-1) continued to roll through its dual-meet schedule on Saturday afternoon, downing Ramapo College (0-2) by a count of 153-101 at Elting Pool. Seven different Hawk women registered individual victories during the meet.

Senior Christine Rieth (Penfield, N.Y./Webster Schroeder) led the way with three individual event wins. She clocked first-place times in the 200 freestyle (1:58.97) and the 50 freestyle (24.64), and she also touched first in the 200 individual medley (2:19.57), though that swim was performed as an exhibition entry. Rieth has yet to lose a race during dual-meet competition this season.

Junior Yuka Suzuka (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Yorktown) shined in both the 100 backstroke and the 200 breaststroke. She boasted the gold standard in the 100 backstroke (1:01.28) before uncorking an event-winning 2:39.64 in the 200 breaststroke.

Sophomore Niki Ghostlaw (New Windsor, N.Y./Newburgh Free Academy) gave the Hawks their first individual victory of the meet in the 1,000 freestyle (11:45.91), while junior Anna Jakubek (Harriman, N.Y./Monroe-Woodbury) was the top finisher in the 100 breaststroke (1:13.72) a few events later. Both butterfly events went New Paltz's way, as senior Amanda Cloer (Stony Point, N.Y./North Rockland) took the 200 butterfly (2:27.36) and junior Carly Marshall (Cornwall, N.Y./Cornwall) claimed the 100 butterfly (1:01.30). Freshman Katherine Buyes (Wappingers Falls, N.Y./John Jay) fared well in the 500 freestyle, covering the 20-lap event in an event-best 5:33.22.

The Hawks also clocked the fastest time in both relay events. Suzuka, Jakubek, Marshall and Buyes partnered up for a first-place result in the 400 medley relay (4:12.02), while the quartet of junior Katina Lown (Bohemia, N.Y./Connetquot), senior Taylor Henshaw (Norwood, N.J./Northern Valley Old Tappan), Jakubek and Rieth posted the top time in the 200 freestyle relay (1:44.12), even though they were entered as an exhibition entry.

Second-place finishes came from sophomore Ali Smoak (Gansevoort, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) in the 1,000 freestyle (11:57.29), freshman Colleen Stewart (Shelton, Conn./Shelton) in the 100 breaststroke (1:15.82) and the 200 breaststroke (2:41.51), sophomore Victoria Scalise (Rochester, N.Y./Brighton) in the 50 freestyle (26.43) and 500 freestyle (5:39.89) and Marshall in the 200 backstroke (2:22.12).
