Marshall Resets 100 Butterfly Program Record; Women’s Swimming Finishes Day 2 of ECAC Championships

EAST MEADOW, N.Y. – Junior Carly Marshall (Cornwall, N.Y./Cornwall Central) finished fifth in the 100 butterfly on Saturday evening, resetting her own program record in the event as the State University of New York at New Paltz women's swimming team wrapped up the second of three days at the 2011 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Winter Swimming & Diving Championships at the Nassau County Aquatics Center.

She clocked a 58.91 in the event, which bettered her former mark of 59.21 that she set at the 2011 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Swimming & Diving Championships.

After three sessions and two days of competition, the Hawks rank third out of 13 teams with 785.50 points, sitting behind Wagner College (1,260) and the Stevens Institute of Technology (1,259).

In addition to Marshall, senior Christine Rieth (Penfield, N.Y./Webster Schroeder) had a standout day, clocking an NCAA “B” standard in the 100 freestyle during the morning session with a sizzling 52.13. With that time, she placed second in the event out of 60 swimmers. In the evening session, she turned in a seventh-place 1:57.89 in the 200 freestyle.

Junior Yuka Suzuka (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Yorktown) excelled in both backstroke events, as she finished fourth in the 200 backstroke (2:08.32) during the morning session before charting a fifth-place time of 58.83 in the 100 backstroke during the evening session.

Junior Anna Jakubek (Harriman, N.Y./Monroe-Woodbury) had standout performances in the two breaststroke events, going a fourth-place 1:10.80 in the 100 breaststroke and a 2:34.00 in the 200 breaststroke.

In the 400 individual medley, Marshall and sophomore Chelsea Allocco (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) finished in sequence, as Marshall placed fifth (4:41.54) and Allocco took sixth (4:42.00). Allocco added a fifth-place swim in the 200 breaststroke (2:30.67), while Marshall was third in the 200 butterfly (2:09.72).

The foursome of junior Katina Lown (Bohemia, N.Y./Connetquot), sophomore Victoria Scalise (Rochester, N.Y./Brighton), Jakubek and Rieth placed third in the 200 freestyle relay (1:40.08), while Scalise, freshman Katherine Buyes (Wappingers Falls, N.Y./John Jay), Allocco and Rieth claimed third in the 800 freestyle relay.

The three-day meet concludes tomorrow morning, with the session beginning at 10 a.m. All events will be swum in a timed-final format.
