WELLESLEY, Mass. – Freshman Paige Munroe (Ann Arbor, Mich.) and sophomore Montana Wilson (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) won at fifth and sixth singles, respectively, but the State University of New York at New Paltz women's tennis team (10-4) suffered a 7-2 setback at the hands of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (9-4) on Saturday at the 2011 Wellesley College Tennis Invitational at Dana Hall.

Munroe won, 6-4, 6-3, over Katie O'Neal, while Wilson defeated Melissa Diskin, 6-1, 1-6, 7-6. In other singles action, Lauren Quisenberry of MIT topped senior Stephanie Schara (Huntington, N.Y.), 6-0, 6-1, at No. 1, Candace Wu of MIT downed senior Lindsey Garyn (Melville, N.Y.), 6-3, 6-4, at No. 2, Julia Hsu of MIT knocked off sophomore Kayla DiPaulo (Liverpool, N.Y.), 6-2, 6-1, at No. 3 and Bianca Dumitrascu of MIT beat sophomore Alli Esposito (Bellmore, N.Y.), 6-2, 6-2, at No. 4.

The Engineers swept doubles play as well. Quisenberry and Wu bested Schara and Garyn at No. 1, Hsu and Dumitrascu conquered Wilson and DiPaulo at No. 2 and Diskin and O'Neal edged Esposito and Munroe at No. 3.

New Paltz continues play at the Wellesley Invitational tomorrow, facing Colby-Sawyer College at 9 a.m. before squaring off with Emerson College at 1 p.m.
