New Paltz Men's Soccer Blanks Green Mountain College, 4-0, Wins Bard Classic Title

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y.
– A dominant offensive performance on the final day of the Bard Classic pushed the State University of New York at New Paltz men's soccer team (3-2-0) past Green Mountain College (0-3-0), 4-0, on Sunday afternoon. After going 2-0 on the weekend, New Paltz won the Bard Classic title.

Senior midfielder/forward Tommy Garafola (Richmond Hill, N.Y./St. Francis Prep) was named the Tournament MVP, while senior midfielder Joe Emberger (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Roy C. Ketcham) and senior defenders Brendan Ujvary (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park) and Jamal Lis-Simmons (Highland, N.Y./Highland) joined Garafola on the All-Tournament Team.

Four different players scored for the Hawks, and Garafola had one goal and one assist on the day, while junior midfielder/forward Shanshe Khosroshvili (Brooklyn, N.Y./Edward R. Murrow) had two assists.

Garafola broke a scoreless tie at 33:48 when he scored off of passes from freshman midfielder Brian Spina (Delmar, N.Y./Bethlehem Central) and Khosroshvili. Freshman midfielder Stephen Browne (Carle Place, N.Y./Carle Place) tacked on an unassisted marker in the 39th minute to give the Hawks a 2-0 lead heading into the break.

New Paltz continued to pour on offense in the second stanza, as Khosroshvili took a Garafola pass into the back of the net in the 58th minute. Sophomore forward Mike Jacobsen (Guilford, Conn./Guilford) spelled out the final score in the 73rd minute, scoring unassisted.

Senior goalkeeper Tom Viscardi (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Sachem North) drew the start in net for the Hawks and made one save before freshman goalkeeper Andres Montoya (Levittown, N.Y./Division Avenue) took over and did not face a shot on goal in 45 minutes of action. Green Mountain's Nate Kisbaugh sustained the loss, turning aside a match-high seven shots.

The Hawks outshot the Eagles, 21-2, and took 12 corner kicks to Green Mountain's one.

New Paltz returns to the pitch on Tuesday, Sept. 13, squaring off with Vassar College at 4 p.m. in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.
