Hawk Men’s Swimming Tops RIT, Falls to Geneseo in Tri-Meet

NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz men's swimming team (4-6) concluded the second and final day of a tri-meet against the Rochester Institute of Technology (4-3) and SUNY Geneseo (5-3) on Saturday afternoon at Elting Pool, downing RIT, 215.5-116.5, and falling to Geneseo, 227-105.

Senior Ray Amato (Scotia, N.Y./Burnt Hills) was the only Hawk swimmer to place among the top two in any individual event on Saturday, taking second in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:09.85. The 400 medley relay foursome of seniors Jesse Sweeney (East Lyme, Conn./East Lyme) and Pete Nastasi (Monroe, N.Y./Monroe-Woodbury), Amato and senior Jeremy Borrelli (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal) combined for a second-place time of 3:43.40 in the 400 medley relay as well.

In the meet's final event, the Geneseo 400 freestyle relay team of Frank Schiappa, Aaron Wagner, Drew Rogers and Dan Strothenke cleared the pool record by more than a second, clocking a 3:14.50. Geneseo set the former facility standard of 3:15.66 back in 2005.

New Paltz returns to competition on Friday, Jan. 20, squaring off with SUNY Cortland at 4 p.m. in Cortland, N.Y.
