Women's Swimming Edged by Savannah College of Art and Design, 115-90

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Pitted against one of the strongest teams in the NAIA, the Savannah College of Art and Design (1-0), the State University of New York at New Paltz women's swimming team (6-2) fared well, losing by a slim 115-90 margin on Friday evening in Savannah, Ga.

Senior Christine Rieth (Penfield, N.Y./Webster Schroeder) continued her streak of victories, as she won two individual events and participated on the event-winning 400 freestyle relay. Individually, she clocked a 24.89 in the 50 freestyle before uncorking a 54.19 in the 100 freestyle. She swam the anchor leg on the 400 freestyle relay, as the Hawks' quartet of sophomore Victoria Scalise (Rochester, N.Y./Brighton), freshman Katherine Buyes (Wappingers Falls, N.Y./John Jay), junior Katina Lown (Bohemia, N.Y./Connetquot) and Rieth charted a winning time of 3:45.21.

Juniors Carly Marshall (Cornwall, N.Y./Cornwall Central) and Yuka Suzuka (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Yorktown) and sophomore Chelsea Allocco (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) each won an individual event as well. Marshall touched first in the 200 butterfly (2:17.62), Suzuka won the 200 individual medley (2:19.26) and Allocco captured the 500 freestyle (5:27.23). In addition, Allocco was a runner-up finisher in the 1,000 freestyle (11:06.92), while Suzuka placed second in the 200 backstroke (2:16.34).

New Paltz will spend the upcoming week gearing up for a two-day tri-meet against SUNY Geneseo and the Rochester Institute of Technology that will run from Friday, Jan. 13, through Saturday, Jan. 14, at Elting Pool. Friday's session will begin at 6 p.m., while Saturday's session will commence at 1 p.m.
