Mike Jacobsen (Guilford, Conn./Guilford) scored what proved to be the game winner in the first half of Monday's rainy 2-0 shutout victory for the State University of New York at New Paltz men's soccer team (8-7-1) over Hunter College (2-12-2) at the Turf Field.
Jacobsen's fifth goal of the season came in the 12th minute off a perfect cross from senior midfielder
Shanshe Khosroshvili (Brooklyn, N.Y./Edward R. Murrow) from the left wing. Sophomore defender
Brian Spina (Delmar, N.Y./Bethlehem Central) also picked up an assist on the play by setting up Khosroshvili's cross.
New Paltz added a second goal at the 75:49 mark when freshman forward
Casey Terramoccia (West Milford, N.J./West Milford) headed Khosroshvili's corner kick from the right corner past the keeper.

Andres Montoya (Levittown, N.Y./Division Avenue) evened his season record at 4-4-0 with the win, making five saves and earning his third shutout of the year. Hunter's Emmanuel Aprilakis picked up the loss, allowing Jacobsen's goal and making two saves. Zade Haobsh relieved Aprilakis in the second half and stopped six New Paltz shots, but he allowed a goal in the process.
New Paltz outshot Hunter, 28-11, including a 10-5 shots on goal advantage. New Paltz also held the edge in corner kicks, 3-2.
New Paltz faces an important weekend in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) play on Oct. 19 and 20. Currently eighth in the conference with a 2-5 SUNYAC record, the Hawks face an uphill battle with two games remaining in their conference schedule. The top six teams will qualify for the SUNYAC Tournament. On Friday, the Hawks host Buffalo State (1-12-1, 0-6-1 SUNYAC), which currently sits 10th in the conference. The action is set to kickoff at 3 p.m. from Alumni Field. They will then challenge the current No. 5 seed, SUNY Fredonia (4-11-1, 3-3-1 SUNYAC), on Saturday, in a game which could determine a postseason berth.
