BROCKPORT, N.Y. – For the second consecutive season, the State University of New York at New Paltz men's soccer team (10-7-1, 4-5-0 SUNYAC) has qualified for the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Men's Soccer Tournament. Like last year, the Hawks enter the tournament as the No. 6 seed, and also like last year, by defeating Buffalo State and SUNY Fredonia in the final weekend of conference play. The Hawks will face off No. 3 The College at Brockport on Saturday, Oct. 27, at A. Huntley Parker Jr. Field at 1 p.m.
 
TICKET PRICING: Tickets for Saturday's quarterfinal game are $6 for adults and $3 for students.
 
STATISTICAL LEADERS: Senior forward Harrison Lane (Glenmont, N.Y./Bethlehem Central) played much of the season on the back line. He has since returned to his natural position of forward, and finished the season tied for the conference lead with eight goals in SUNYAC play. He leads the team with nine total goals and 20 points. Junior forward Mike Jacobsen (Guilford, Conn./Guilford) follows Lane with five goals on the year, and adds three assists. Senior midfielder Mateo Cordini (Buenos Aires, Argentina/San Martin de Tours) and freshman midfielder Joseph Hughes (Westbury, N.Y./Carle Place) each contributed four goals on the season. Senior midfielder Shanshe Khosroshvili (Brooklyn, N.Y./Edward R. Murrow) led the Hawks with five assists this season.
 
THE KEEPERS: The 2012 campaign has seen a timeshare at netminder for the Hawks. Sophomore goalkeepers Steven Domino (Valatie, N.Y./Ichabod Crane) and Andres Montoya (Levittown, N.Y./Division Avenue) have both contributed to the Hawks' success this season. Domino holds a 6-3-1 record in 10 starts for New Paltz, making 43 saves for a save percentage of .768 and a goals against average of 1.26. Montoya sports a 4-4-0 mark in eight starts, stopping 25 shots for a save percentage of .735 and a goals against average of 1.12. Each keeper earned three shutouts on the season and combined for another.
 
NEW AND IMPROVED: The Hawks entered the season with one of the younger squads in the SUNYAC, and still managed to improve on last year's overall record. This season, 11 student-athletes that were not on the roster a year ago played in 10 or more games, including eight freshmen. Freshman defender Kevin Jacobsen (Guilford, Conn./Guilford) started all 18 games on the back line for the Hawks, while freshman forward Casey Terramoccia (West Milford, N.J./West Milford), freshman forward Angelo DiMatteo (Merrick, N.Y./Sanford H. Calhoun) and sophomore midfielder Javier Ventas (Madrid, Spain/Santa Maria del Pilar) each contributed three or more points.
 
POSTSEASON HISTORY AT A GLANCE: This is the Hawks' second-consecutive,  and fifth overall appearance in the SUNYAC Tournament. New Paltz boasts a 1-4-0 mark in SUNYAC Tournament play. Last season, the Hawks took on SUNY Geneseo in the quarterfinals. A tight game ended with a Geneseo golden goal in the first overtime period, sending the Hawks home after the first round. The program's most memorable postseason run came in 1965, where the Hawks won the NCAA Atlantic Regional title, topping Worcester Tech, 3-2.

ABOUT HEAD COACH GENE VENTRIGLIA: Gene Ventriglia, a longtime veteran of soccer coaching and a charter member of the New Paltz Athletics Hall of Fame, is finishing off his second year as head coach of the New Paltz men's soccer program. Prior to New Paltz, Ventriglia served as the head coach for Marlboro High School's boys' soccer team in 2010, but he is best known for his work at Army, where he served as the head women's soccer coach for 24 seasons. At West Point, Ventriglia was a six-time Patriot League Coach of the Year, and his teams achieved a record of 262-164-29 during his tenure. Before Army, he racked up a 233-33-15 record as a head coach of three different area high schools.
 
SCOUTING THE GOLDEN EAGLES: New Paltz and Brockport faced off on Sept. 29 up in Brockport. Playing without senior defender, and team captain, Nicholas DiPaola (Huntington, N.Y./Huntington), and Ventas, the Hawks fell to the Golden Eagles by a score of 5-2. Kevin Dorn leads Brockport with seven goals and 16 points on the season, while Paul Altobelli contributed six goals of his own. Goalkeeper Casey Sullivan boasts a 7-4-1 overall record, a .794 save percentage and a 1.18 goals against average. He has three shutouts on the season, but has given up four goals in the Golden Eagles' last two games, each of which went to overtime. Head coach Gary LaPietra is in his 17th season at the helm at Brockport, earning a 174-107-28 over his tenure.
