Live StatsTournament BracketPLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – After a hard fought 1-0 victory over third-seeded The College at Brockport on Saturday, the State University of New York at New Paltz men's soccer team (11-7-1, 4-5-0 SUNYAC) moved on to the semifinal round of the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Tournament, where it will take on No. 2 SUNY Oneonta (11-5-1, 7-2-0 SUNYAC) on Friday, Nov. 2, at 1:30 p.m. at the Fieldhouse Soccer Complex located on the campus of SUNY Plattsburgh.

Mateo Cordini (Buenos Aires, Argentina/San Martin de Tours) received a feed from sophomore forward
Stephen Browne (Carle Place, N.Y./Carle Place), and then fired it home for the eventual game winner in the 1-0 victory. Sophomore goalkeeper
Steven Domino (Valatie, N.Y./Ichabod Crane) made nine saves without allowing a goal four his fourth shutout and seventh victory of the year. Domino's effort earned him SUNYAC Defensive Player of the Week honors for the week ending Oct. 28, 2012.
STATISTICAL LEADERS: Senior forward
Harrison Lane (Glenmont, N.Y./Bethlehem Central) played much of the season on the back line. He has since returned to his natural position of forward, and finished the regular season tied for the conference lead with eight goals in SUNYAC play. He leads the team with nine total goals and 20 points. Junior forward
Mike Jacobsen (Guilford, Conn./Guilford) follows Lane with five goals on the year, and adds three assists. Cordini matched Jacobsen with his fifth goal on Saturday, while freshman midfielder Joseph Hughes (Westbury, N.Y./Carle Place) has contributed four goals thus far. Senior midfielder
Shanshe Khosroshvili (Brooklyn, N.Y./Edward R. Murrow) led the Hawks with five assists this season.
THE KEEPERS: The 2012 campaign has seen a timeshare at netminder for the Hawks. Domino and sophomore goalkeeper
Andres Montoya (Levittown, N.Y./Division Avenue) have both contributed to the Hawks' success this season. Domino holds a 6-3-1 record in 10 starts for New Paltz, making 43 saves for a save percentage of .768 and a goals against average of 1.26. Montoya sports a 4-4-0 mark in eight starts, stopping 25 shots for a save percentage of .735 and a goals against average of 1.12. Each keeper earned three shutouts on the season and combined for another.
NEW AND IMPROVED: The Hawks entered the season with one of the younger squads in the SUNYAC, and still managed to improve on last year's overall record. This season, 11 student-athletes that were not on the roster a year ago played in 10 or more games, including eight freshmen. Freshman defender

Javier Ventas (Madrid, Spain/Santa Maria del Pilar) each contributed three or more points.
POSTSEASON HISTORY AT A GLANCE: This is the Hawks' second-consecutive, and fifth overall appearance in the SUNYAC Tournament. New Paltz boasts a 1-4-0 mark in SUNYAC Tournament play. Last season, the Hawks took on SUNY Geneseo in the quarterfinals. A tight game ended with a Geneseo golden goal in the first overtime period, sending the Hawks home after the first round. The program's most memorable postseason run came in 1965, where the Hawks won the NCAA Atlantic Regional title, topping Worcester Tech, 3-2.
ABOUT HEAD COACH GENE VENTRIGLIA:
Gene Ventriglia, a longtime veteran of soccer coaching and a charter member of the New Paltz Athletics Hall of Fame, is finishing off his second year as head coach of the New Paltz men's soccer program. Prior to New Paltz, Ventriglia served as the head coach for Marlboro High School's boys' soccer team in 2010, but he is best known for his work at Army, where he served as the head women's soccer coach for 24 seasons. At West Point, Ventriglia was a six-time Patriot League Coach of the Year, and his teams achieved a record of 262-164-29 during his tenure. Before Army, he racked up a 233-33-15 record as a head coach of three different area high schools.
SCOUTING THE RED DRAGONS: New Paltz and Oneonta faced off on Oct. 13 at Alumni Field. The Red Dragons scored the only goal of a 1-0 game of the game on Ian Tenzer's 16-yard netter in the 22nd minute. Domino made two saves in goal, but allowed the winning goal. Oneonta's Daniel DeBottis needed just one save to get past the Hawks, who have since improved their scoring attack. Oneonta made a deep run in the NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Tournament a year ago, being eliminated in the Final Four by Calvin College. They have since lost 12 seniors to graduation, but are still one of the top teams in the conference. Luke Halberg leads the Red Dragons with six goals and 13 points on the season. Daniel DeBottis started four of the last five games for Oneonta. He has an overall record of 5-4-1, including three shutouts. He has made 34 saves for a .773 save percentage, and a goals against average of 1.03. Head coach Iain Byrne is in his 10th season at the helm for Oneonta and currently owns a 116-54-23 overall record with the program.
