NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – While the State University of New York at New Paltz women's tennis team was unable to defend its State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) title in 2011-12, the Hawks enjoyed a successful season nonetheless, going 13-8 overall (3-0 SUNYAC East) and placing among the top two at the SUNYAC Women's Tennis Championship Tournament for the 10th straight year.
2011-12 marked a change of format for the conference tournament, as it went from being a flighted event to a dual-match oriented format. The Hawks started off their season going 4-0 before suffering a loss to conference nemesis SUNY Geneseo. They then tuned up for the SUNYAC Tournament by beating The College at Brockport and the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and participating at the Vassar/New York University Triangular.
New Paltz made quick work of SUNY Oswego in the quarterfinal round of the SUNYAC Tournament, winning by a 9-0 final, and edged SUNY Oneonta, 6-3, in the semifinals to set up a championship match against Geneseo. The Blue Knights wrested the league crown from the Hawks, however, boasting a 5-1 victory.
Undeterred from a runner-up conference finish, New Paltz took on a full schedule of tough opponents in the spring. After a 7-2 loss to St. Lawrence University to open up the spring season, the Hawks went 1-4 in Orlando, Fla., battling Lawrence University, Huntingdon College, Grinnell College, Colby College and Whitworth University. New Paltz returned back north to finish up the 2012 portion of its schedule, which began with back-to-back road wins over Union (N.Y.) College and the Stevens Institute of Technology. The Hawks' biggest triumph of the 2011-12 campaign, however, came two days after the Stevens victory, as they blanked Ithaca College, 9-0. The following day, New Paltz fell to 23rd-ranked The College of New Jersey, and it wrapped up its dual-match season with a 9-0 win over Hunter College at home on Senior Day. On April 28, the Hawks once again won the annual New Paltz Tournament, placing first out of eight teams.

Paige Munroe (Ann Arbor, Mich./Ann Arbor Pioneer) was named First-Team All-Conference at third singles, while junior
Kayla DiPaulo (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) was tabbed as First-Team All-Conference at second doubles and Second-Team All-Conference at second singles. DiPaulo's doubles partner, freshman
Devin Tracy (Great River, N.Y./East Islip), also was selected to the All-SUNYAC First Team at second doubles. Munroe led the team in singles victories with 15, while the No. 2 doubles tandem of DiPaulo and Tracy had a successful year with a 15-7 overall record.
