Hawk Men’s Soccer Tripped Up by Brockport, 5-2

Box Score

BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz men's soccer team's (5-5-1, 1-3-0 SUNYAC) rally fell short as they fell to The College at Brockport (4-6-0, 3-1-0 SUNYAC) in a State University of New York Athletic Conference matchup on Saturday, 5-2.

The Golden Eagles scored four goals before the Hawks could get on the board, all coming in the first 36 minutes of the game. Brockport added a fifth goal in the 60th minute for insurance. Kevin Dorn led the way with a pair of goals for the Golden Eagles. Ryan Phillips, Nick Tata and Paul Altobelli each scored a goal as well.

Junior forward Mike Jacobsen (Guilford, Conn./Guilford) picked up both goals for the Hawks, the second coming just 46 seconds after the first. At 43:05, Jacobsen received a feed from freshman forward Dondre Irving (Elmont, N.Y./Valley Stream North) to the middle of the box and beat the goalie for his first score. He picked up his second netter at 43:51 after a perfect cross from senior defender Harrison Lane (Glenmont, N.Y./Bethlehem Central) found Jacobsen right in front of the goal.

Sophomore goalkeeper Steven Domino (Valatie, N.Y./Ichabod Crane) suffered his first loss of the season, allowing five goals, but stopping eight shots in the process. Casey Sullivan picked up the win, allowing two goals and making three saves in the first half. Max Drexler took over in the cage for the Golden Eagles in the second half and made five saves without allowing a goal.

The Hawks were able to outshoot Brockport, 26-21, but the Golden Eagles put 13 on net compared to the Hawks' 10. Brockport held the edge in corner kicks with an 11-4 margin.

New Paltz continues SUNYAC play on the road next weekend, Oct. 5-6. The Hawks face off with SUNY Plattsburgh on Friday. The game is slated to begin at 4 p.m.
