BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz women's tennis team looks to claim its fifth State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) title in program history from Friday-Sunday, Oct. 11-13, at the 2013 SUNYAC Tennis Championship Tournament held at the Binghamton Tennis Center.

The Hawks (6-3, 3-0 SUNYAC East), who hold the East Division's top seed, open up the weekend on Friday at 4:30 p.m. when they face the West Division's No. 4 seed, SUNY Oswego (4-7, 0-3 SUNYAC West), in the quarterfinal round. The semifinals are set for Saturday, while the final round is slated for Sunday. The winner of the tournament will earn the SUNYAC's automatic bid into the 2014 NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championship Tournament, which will be held in May.

New Paltz will once again face Oswego in the quarterfinal round, as the two have met in the quarterfinals in every SUNYAC Tournament since it went away from its non-flighted format in 2011. The Hawks have won, 9-0, in each of those meetings.

The favorite heading into the tournament is SUNY Geneseo, who has won the past two SUNYAC titles. Geneseo (8-1, 3-0 SUNYAC West) and New Paltz met in the conference final in 2011 and 2012, and given that the Hawks are the only SUNYAC team to have not lost 9-0 this year to the Knights, it seems likely that the pair could match up in the championship bout for the third time in as many years.

Freshman Olivia Ammirati (Huntington, N.Y./Huntington) leads the singles lineup, as she is 8-4 overall this season, including a 7-2 mark at flight one. Senior Paige Munroe (Ann Arbor, Mich./Ann Arbor Pioneer) has been unstoppable thus far at flight two singles, as she has fashioned a 9-0 record in dual matches. Junior Jessica Schmidt (Commack, N.Y./Commack) has been a solid contributor at No. 3 singles, sporting a 5-2 mark at the flight. The rest of the singles lineup appears up for grabs, as freshmen Veronika Paikin (North Woodmere, N.Y./George W. Hewlett) and Elizabeth Palmer (Woodstock, N.Y./Cazenovia) and sophomore Allie Starke (Binghamton, N.Y./Susquehanna Valley) are a combined 16-6 at flights four, five and six.

The Hawks' No. 1 doubles tandem of Munroe and junior Devin Tracy (Great River, N.Y./East Islip) are 6-2 on the year and look to go toe-to-toe with the conference's best doubles teams. Paikin and Schmidt look to be New Paltz's No. 2 doubles team, owning a 3-2 record to their credit at flight two, while Ammirati and Starke look to team up at flight three doubles with a 2-3 dual-match mark.

New Paltz won its last conference title in 2010, which was the final year that the SUNYAC hosted a flighted tournament.
