Box Score

NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz men's soccer team was unable to generate scoring chances throughout Friday afternoon's State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) contest against The College at Brockport at Alumni Field and ultimately fell by a 4-0 final to the seventh-ranked Golden Eagles.

The Golden Eagles controlled the tempo of the contest from the get-go, taking 21 shots throughout the course of the game, 13 of which were on target. Furthermore, the Brockport attack clicked on all cylinders, with each goal being accompanied by at least one assist.

New Paltz drops to 2-6-2 overall and 1-2-0 in SUNYAC play. The Hawks next face SUNY Geneseo at 1 p.m. tomorrow afternoon at Alumni Field. Brockport keeps its record unblemished, advancing to 8-0-2 overall and 3-0-0 in SUNYAC contests. The Golden Eagles square off with SUNY Oneonta tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m. in Oneonta, N.Y.

Brockport scored early, doing so off a corner kick in the fourth minute. Matthew Roorda played in the ball from the right-hand side of the field, and Ryan Phillips headed in a goal to give the Golden Eagles the early advantage. After applying offensive pressure throughout the half, Brockport was rewarded with its second goal at 36:47. Dan Turchan played in a corner kick, and David LaPietra got the ball to Peter DiLorenzo, who found the back of the net to give the Golden Eagles a 2-0 lead heading into halftime.

The second half was all Brockport, as the visitors held a 13-4 margin in shots in the final 45 minutes of play. In the 62nd minute, Michael Bernard ripped a shot off a set piece that was saved by junior goalkeeper Steven Domino (Valatie, N.Y./Ichabod Crane), and Chris O'Gorman buried the rebound to give Brockport a 3-0 edge. Finally, in the 79th minute, Ben Grimsley found the feet of Cody Zavaglia, who unleashed a goal-scoring blast from around 16 yards out.

Casey Sullivan started in goal for the Golden Eagles, making two saves in 70:35 of action. Max Drexler relieved him and made one stop to preserve the clean sheet. Domino turned aside nine shots in the loss for New Paltz.

Brockport finished with a 21-12 cushion in shots and a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks.
