Women’s Soccer Hangs Tough in 4-2 Loss to Brockport

BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz women's soccer team scored first in a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) contest against The College at Brockport on Friday at Huntley Parker Field, but the Golden Eagles netted four unanswered goals to prevail by a 4-2 final.

Brockport peppered the Hawks with shots all throughout the game, finishing with a 37-14 shot margin. Furthermore, the Golden Eagles also held a 7-4 edge in corner kicks. While the Hawks owned the advantage on the scoreboard for much of the first half, the momentum heavily favored Brockport after a three-goal spurt that lasted 8:41 from 34:09 to 41:07.

New Paltz falls to 2-6-3 overall and 0-2-1 in conference action. The Hawks look to get back on track tomorrow when they visit SUNY Geneseo for a 1 p.m. match. Brockport rises to 7-1-1 overall and 2-0-1 in SUNYAC play. The Golden Eagles next face SUNY Oneonta tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m.

Sophomore forward Chelsea Weir (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip) opened scoring 2:55 into the game, collecting a rebound off a missed shot and burying the ball into the back of the net. After more than 30 minutes transpired without scoring, Annie Terilli netted an unassisted marker at 34:09 that opened up a three-goal tear to close the half. Cayli Carmona scored unassisted at 41:07 to give the Golden Eagles the lead before Terilli scored off a Katie Gildemeyer pass at 42:50 to put Brockport on top, 3-1, heading into the intermission.

Chelsea Stahl headed in a goal off of a cross from Vanessa Gillette in the 70th minute to open up a three-goal lead for Brockport, but it was Weir who struck again at 87:51 to close out the game's scoring.

Sophomore goalkeeper Krysten Kane (Macedon, N.Y./Wayne Central) suffered the loss in between the pipes for the Hawks, making 11 stops, while Laura Thompson earned the win for the Golden Eagles with a four-save effort.
