Sophomore forward
Dondre Irving (Elmont, N.Y./Valley Stream North) put the Hawks on the board at 11:46, using a long pass sent from senior forward
Javier Ventas (Madrid, Spain/Santa Maria del Pilar) to score. That 1-0 margin would stand throughout the rest of the first half.
Ventas buried his first goal of the game at 61:47, using passes from senior midfielder
Bernardo Menendez (Buenos Aires, Argentina/San Martin de Tours) and sophomore midfielder
Jake Falk (Jericho, N.Y./Jericho) to beat the goalkeeper, but Geneseo answered just under two minutes later with a penalty-kick goal by Connor Beisner.
Ventas uncorked a highlight-reel marker in the 71st minute, deking a Geneseo defender without much room to maneuver and blasting a shot into the top right-hand corner of the goal. Falk was credited with the assist on the play. Geneseo was unable to draw any closer the rest of the contest, and the Hawks secured the SUNYAC weekend split.
Junior goalkeeper
Steven Domino (Valatie, N.Y./Ichabod Crane) earned the win, making eight stops, while his counterpart, Logan Calvey, stopped two shots in the loss.
For the game, Geneseo held a 23-13 edge in shots and a 9-3 margin in corner kicks.
