Box Score PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – Despite keeping a clean sheet in the first half, the State University of New York at New Paltz men's soccer team lost by a 2-0 final to SUNY Plattsburgh in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) action Friday afternoon at the Cardinal Lacrosse/Soccer Complex.
New Paltz stayed in the contest thanks to strong play by senior goalkeeper
Andres Montoya (Levittown, N.Y./Division Avenue), who made a career-high-tying 10 saves. Plattsburgh finished with a 29-5 edge in shots and a 10-2 margin in corner kicks.
New Paltz drops to 3-9-1 overall (0-4-1 SUNYAC) with the loss and visits SUNY Potsdam tomorrow for a 1 p.m. contest. Plattsburgh rises to 7-5-1 overall (2-2-0 SUNYAC) with the win and hosts SUNY Oneonta tomorrow at 1 p.m.
The Cardinals finally cashed in after numerous scoring chances in the 69th minute, as junior defender Clay Sherman one-touched a ball into the goal off a free-kick opportunity for Plattsburgh. Sophomore forward Chris Bowden and junior midfielder Nelson Vetter were credited with assists on the play. Sophomore forward Alexis Archilla netted his 10th goal of the season and the Cardinals' second of the game in the 85th minute, drilling in a cross from freshman forward Nicholas Laurent. Plattsburgh prevented New Paltz from staging a comeback down the stretch and picked up a key three points in the SUNYAC standings.

Alec Johnson (Ballston Spa, N.Y./Ballston Spa) took a team-high two shots for the Hawks. Junior goalkeeper Mitchell Jordan made one save to earn the shutout for the Cardinals.
