Meet ResultsCAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The State University of New York at New Paltz women's swimming team continued posting fast times on day two of the MIT Invitational hosted at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Zeisiger Center on Saturday, as the Hawks finished up the evening session in second place out of eight teams with 246 points.
Host MIT leads the team standings with 615 points, while Harvard University (third, 224), Wellesley College (fourth, 205), Wheaton (Mass.) College (fifth, 194), Keene State College (sixth, 187), Tufts University (seventh, 154) and Bowdoin College (eighth, 144) round out the remainder of the field.
Action at the meet concludes tomorrow, with prelims set for 10:30 a.m. and finals slated for 6 p.m.
The Hawks kicked off the evening session with their "A" 200 freestyle relay team comprised of junior
Cassidy Griger (Cooperstown, N.Y./Cooperstown Central), freshman
Molly McCulloch (Rome, N.Y./Holland Patent), freshman
Megan Joseph (Hauppauge, N.Y./Hauppauge) and junior
Krista VerMeersch (Newark, N.Y./Newark) placing third with a time of 1:37.91.
In the 200 butterfly, junior
Kim Kallansrude (Muttontown, N.Y./Jericho) placed sixth with a time of 2:13.35, while junior
Maggie Heaton (New Milford, Conn./New Milford) took eighth with a standard of 2:16.58. Junior
Mary Ansman (Holtsville, N.Y./Sachem East) also scored points in the event, finishing 16th (2:25.15).
Griger powered her way to a fifth-place finish in the 200 freestyle, charting a time of 1:55.71. Senior
Kat Buyes (Wappingers Falls, N.Y./John Jay-East Fishkill) also cracked the two-minute barrier, placing 11th (1:59.85).
Senior
Samantha Granan (Hyde Park, N.Y./Franklin D. Roosevelt) and Joseph took seventh (1:07.77) and ninth (1:08.79), respectively, in the 100 breaststroke, while senior
Colleen Stewart (Shelton, Conn./Shelton) also scored points in the event with a 14th-place time of 1:09.91.
McCulloch and junior
Casey O'Connor (New Fairfield, Conn./New Fairfield) each made the "B" final of the 100 backstroke and scored points, with McCulloch taking 12th (1:01.37) and O'Connor placing 15th (1:02.07).
Kallansrude made the "A" final of the 400 individual medley and took 10th with a mark of 4:56.33, while sophomore
Ann Fici (Hauppauge, N.Y./Hauppauge) placed 12th in the event coming out of the "B" final (4:55.10).
Finally, in the 50 freestyle, McCulloch claimed seventh (24.85), while Joseph placed 11th (25.17).
