New Paltz opened the scoring in the first half, as senior forward Jason Gonzalez (Woodside, N.Y./St. Francis Prep) managed to knock in a rebound shot off of a save by the Brockport goalkeeper to stake the Hawks to a 1-0 lead.

Brockport nearly tied up the score in the start of the second half when the Golden Eagles were awarded a penalty kick, but sophomore goalkeeper John Guzzo (Carle Place, N.Y./Carle Place) stopped the ball from hitting its target to maintain the New Paltz's lead.

The Golden Eagles continued to search for the equalizer and found their opportunity in the 66th minute, as Pete DiLorenzo sent a header into the lower right corner of the goal. Brockport surged ahead, 2-1, in the 75th minute when David Rougeux found the back of the net off a corner kick from Collin Goetell.

The Goettel-Rougeux connection worked again in the 88th minute to seal the 3-1 win for the Golden Eagles.

Brockport outshot New Paltz, 12-10, and held a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks.
