Meet ResultsBUFFALO – Freshman
Molly McCulloch (Rome, N.Y./Holland Patent) from the State University of New York at New Paltz women's swimming team made a name for herself on day two of her first collegiate conference championship meet on Friday at the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Swimming & Diving Championships at Erie Community College's Burt Flickinger Aquatic Center, winning the 100 butterfly in a conference meet record time of 57.10.
McCulloch, who lowered the program record of 58.20 in the event set by Carly Marshall in 2013 in the morning heats, dashed out to a quick start in her evening swim, splitting a 26.15 on her opening 50. She held on in the final half of the race to finish just under the former conference meet standard of 57.13 set by SUNY Geneseo's Hailey Modelewski last year, and in the process, McCulloch achieved an NCAA "B" qualifying time.
New Paltz remained at fifth in the team standings with 310 points after day two, but with both diving events out of the way, the Hawks are in a position to make a move tomorrow. Geneseo has more than double the amount of points of the second-place team (679), but just 46 points separate second from sixth. SUNY Oneonta currently ranks second with 322 points, while SUNY Fredonia sits in third with 318 points. The College at Brockport dropped down to fourth (314), while New Paltz and SUNY Cortland are currently fifth (310) and sixth (276), respectively. SUNY Oswego (seventh, 126), SUNY Potsdam (eighth, 112) and Buffalo State (ninth, 106) round out the rest of the team standings.
The Hawks began the evening session with a solid performance in the 200 medley relay, as the quartet of junior
Casey O'Connor (New Fairfield, Conn./New Fairfield), senior
Samantha Granan (Hyde Park, N.Y./Franklin D. Roosevelt), McCulloch and freshman
Megan Joseph (Hauppauge, N.Y./Hauppauge) placed third with a time of 1:48.31.
Joseph gave New Paltz its first championship-final individual event points of the day in the 400 individual medley, as she finished sixth (4:48.12). Sophomore
Ann Fici (Hauppauge, N.Y./Hauppauge) won the consolation final with a ninth-place 4:51.32, while junior
Kim Kallansrude (Muttontown, N.Y./Jericho) took 12th with a standard of 4:54.72.
New Paltz racked up 42 points in the 100 butterfly, as McCulloch took home the conference title in the event, while juniors
Maggie Heaton (New Milford, Conn./New Milford),
Ella Graffin (Ithaca, N.Y./Ithaca) and Kallansrude placed fifth (59.80), 12th (1:00.63) and 14th (1:01.16), respectively. As a result of placing first in an individual event, McCulloch automatically earns First-Team All-SUNYAC distinction.
Junior
Cassidy Griger (Cooperstown, N.Y./Cooperstown Central) finished runner-up in the 200 freestyle and earned Second-Team All-SUNYAC honors in the process, finishing with a time of 1:55.23. Senior
Kat Buyes (Wappingers Falls, N.Y./John Jay-East Fishkill) and sophomore
Aimee Del Favero (Auburn, N.Y./Home School) made the consolation final in the event and placed 15th (1:59.74) and 16th (2:01.29), respectively.
Granan picked up Second-Team All-SUNYAC recognition in the 100 breaststroke, touching third in finals with a time of 1:06.22. Senior
Colleen Stewart (Shelton, Conn./Shelton) finished 16th (1:12.39) in the event.
O'Connor wound up scoring championship-final points in the 100 backstroke, covering the event in a seventh-place time of 1:02.25. Freshman
Lindsay Feminella (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Joseph by-the-Sea) and junior

In the final event of the evening, New Paltz's foursome of Griger, Buyes, O'Connor and Graffin held off Oneonta in the 800 freestyle relay to finish second with a time of 7:56.84.
