NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz women's tennis team closed out its 2015-16 season hosting the 2016 New Paltz Tournament with SUNY Cortland and St. Thomas Aquinas College on Saturday morning at the North Tennis Courts.
New Paltz concludes the season with a 7-6 overall record. Cortland finishes its season, 6-6, overall, while St. Thomas Aquinas closes its season with a 7-7 overall record.
The Hawks went 3-1 in doubles and 6-2 in singles action against the Red Dragons. The sophomore tandem of
Brittany Grandville (Tappan, N.Y./Tappan Zee) and
Carol Tyson (Clinton Corners, N.Y./Rhinebeck) defeated their opponents in flight one doubles, 8-3, while junior
Olivia Ammirati (Huntington, N.Y./Huntington) and sophomore
Emi Lewis (New York City, N.Y./NYC Lab School) took flight two, 8-2.
Senior
Laura Tierney (Berkeley Heights, N.J./Governor Livingston) and freshman
Lindsay Haley (Hicksville, N.Y./St. Anthony's) earned the third flight win, 8-4, while junior
Kirsten Delvecchio (Pleasant Valley, N.Y./Franklin D. Roosevelt) and freshman
Isabella Risius (Brooklyn, N.Y./Leon M. Goldstein) dropped an 8-3 decision in flight four.
In singles play, Ammirati took the top flight, 8-1, while Grandville and Tyson took flight two and flight three in 8-5 and 8-0, respectively. Tierney won flight four, 8-1, with Lewis earning an 8-2 win in flight five. Haley earned an 8-3 victory in the sixth flight, while Delvecchio and Ruis rounded out the line up, falling 8-6 and 8-1 in the seventh and eighth flights, respectively.
Against St. Thomas Aquinas, the Hawks split doubles action as Grandville and Tyson fell, 8-5, in flight one and Ammirati and Lewis dropped an 8-1 decision in flight two, but Tierney and Haley defeated their opponents, 8-6, in flight three and Delvecchio and Risius won flight four, 8-4.
New Paltz won six out of eight flights in singles. Tyson won flight three, 8-1, while Tierney and Lewis won 8-0 and 8-3 in flights four and five, respectively. Haley also earned an 8-0 victory as she defeated her opponent in flight six, while Delvecchio and Risius won flights seven and eight with scores of 8-6 and 9-7, respectively. Ammirati fell in flight one, 8-5, while Grandville dropped flight two, 8-4.
