SUNY New Paltz Swimming Finishes Third At Tate Ramsden Invite

Hanover, NH — Despite finishing in third place, the State University of New York at New Paltz men's and women's swimming teams put on a strong effort against Division I opponents Dartmouth College and UMass Amherst at the Tate Ramsden Invitational from Jan. 19-20.

"After a really disappointing first day, we bounced back very nicely today," Hawks coach Tom Eickelberg said.

SUNY New Paltz sophomore Cooper Knapp put on a strong showing against tough competition, as he finished second in the 100-yard butterfly (51.98 seconds) and fourth in the 200 butterfly (1:54.28) marking a season best in the former event. His time in the 100 butterfly is currently the fourth-best in the SUNYAC. Knapp also finished third in the 100-yard backstroke (51.65) and 200-yard individual medley (1:54.53).

Hawks senior Caleb Treadwell was the first SUNY New Paltz swimmer to finish in the 50-yard freestyle with a 22.84 mark, while Hawks senior Kevin Sales led his team in the 100 freestyle clocking in at 51.23.

On the women's side, SUNY New Paltz freshman Lindsay Kranitz was the first on her team to complete the 200-yard breaststroke, with a time of 2:42.49.

"Kevin Sales had a great weekend for us," Eickelberg said. "And Lindsay Kranitz stepped up big for us as well."

Hawks junior Jaimie Kaefer was the first SUNY New Paltz swimmer to finish in the 200 individual medley (2:17.61) and 200 backstroke (2:17.14).

Kaefer, along with senior Molly McCulloch, junior Kaleigh O'Halloran and sophomore Sarah Crespo, notched a time of 1:46.19 in the 200-yard freestyle relay. Kaefer was also part of the quartet that clocked in at 3:49.77 in the 400-yard freestyle relay, along with junior Nicole Lee and sophomores Chelsea Angulas and Samantha Woll.

"Our women's relays were really together and did a great job of staying positive," Eickelberg said. "Our training for longer events has gone really nicely and now it's time for them to get some rest and really focus on our conference championship."

The Hawks will next travel to SUNYAC foe and Catskill Cup rival SUNY Oneonta on Jan. 27 for their final conference meet of the season before the SUNYAC Championships. The Red Dragons currently have a 15-9 edge in the Catskill Cup standings. Be sure to follow @nphawks on Twitter and @newpaltzhawks on Instagram and Facebook for live updates, highlights, game recaps and more!
