(RESULTS) Garden City, N.Y. — The State University of New York at New Paltz achieved its first duel meet victory after taking down Adelphi University on both sides Saturday.
On a day that saw some incredible performances, the Hawks women's team won the meet with a score of 56-39 against the Panthers, while the men also enjoyed success, winning the meet 57-38.
SUNY New Paltz started off by claiming first place in the women's 400-yard medley relay with a blowout time of 4 minutes 10.66 seconds. In her first ever 1,000-yard freestyle, junior
Lindsay Kranitz achieved a victory when she out touched teammate
Victoria Bogdanski with a time of 12:04.89. Kranitz also won the women's 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:34.99. Freshman
Kirsten Giovanniello claimed her first collegiate victory, winning the women's 200 freestyle with a time of 2:03.29. Giovanniello also won the women's 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:14.91. She now holds top-five times in three separate events in the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC).
Adding to the Hawks' winning streak, senior
Chelsea Angulas won the women's 50-yard freestyle with a time of 26 seconds.
Kelly Donlevy won the 100-yard freestyle, swimming a time of 57.63, while senior
Sarah Crespo finished in second place with a time of 58.9. SUNY New Paltz's backstrokers continued its dominance when senior
Samantha Woll won the women's 200 backstroke with a time of 2:18.05 and freshman
Delilah Griger came in second place, finishing in 2:21.75.
Sophomore
Mitch Chappell had a victorious day on the men's side for the Hawks, claiming wins in two relays and in the 200 freestyle. Chappell's 200 freestyle time of 1:49.06 is the third fastest in the SUNYAC thus far. Sophomore
Ethan Bonney, who has continued to be SUNY New Paltz's men's team MVP with his astounding distance swims, had yet another spectacular meet. Bonney won the men's 1,000 freestyle by more than 40 seconds with a time of 10:08.74, which puts him at the No. 1 spot in the SUNYAC for that event.
Bonney also placed second in the men's 200-yard backstroke, and won the very next event, the men's 500 freestyle with a time of 4:59.14. Sophomore
Jared Finn also had a standout day, winning the men's 100 freestyle with a time of 49.62. Finn also claimed victories in both of the relays. Zac Brown claimed first place in the 200 breaststroke (2:24.36) and was followed very closely by sophomore
Akiva Garfield who took his first 100 yards out in an astounding 1:05.05. Garfield finished the 200 breaststroke in second place with a time of 2:24.97. In the very last event, the men's 400 freestyle relay, closed out the Panthers with the Hawks touching in 3:19.48 to propel SUNY New Paltz to victory.
"The team really bounced back this week after the Hartwick meet. We came in with an attack mindset and outstanding energy." Said coach Matt Distler.
