Jared Finn Wins 200 Freestyle to Highlight Day Three of SUNYAC Swimming Championships

(RESULTS) Buffalo, NY — The State University of New York at New Paltz swim team was electric on day three of the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Championships Friday.

In an eventful night, the Hawks women's team placed third in the 200-yard medley relay to start things off. The relay was composed of junior Tessa Griger, junior Lindsay Kranitz, freshman Kelly Donlevy and senior Chelsea Angulas and they finished in a time of 1 minute 48.5 seconds. Natalia Giunta had a big drop from prelims to finals in the 400 individual medley, as she came in with a time of 5:06.18. 

On the Hawks men's side, freshman Owen Rowlands stepped up big time in the 400 individual medley when he came in eighth place overall, finishing in a time of 4:17.86. Sophomore Luke Gamboli had a big leap from last season in the men's 100-yard butterfly when he went a 50.90. 

SUNYAC Swimming ChampionshipsDonlevy scored 13 points for the women's team in the 100-yard butterfly when she came in sixth place. Senior Samantha Woll had a personal best time of 1:59.39 and came in 10th overall in the women's 200-yard freestyle. Kranitz earned big points for the women in the 100-yard breaststroke, finishing with a 1:07.15 and placing fourth overall. 

Sophomore Victoria Bogdanski, freshman Delilah Griger, junior Tessa Griger and Angulas added a total of 48 points onto their total score after placing in the top-10 in their respective races. 

"I'm taking in every moment in my last SUNYACs," Anguals said. "I love watching the freshman experience their first."

In the men's strongest event of the night, sophomore Mitch Chappell placed fourth overall with a time of 1:44.18 and sophomore Jared Finn placed first overall in the 200 freestyle, bringing home his first personal gold medal. Sophomore Luke Gamboli dropped half a second in the 100-yard backstroke from prelims when he swam a 53.61.

The Hawks conclude the SUNYAC Championship meet Saturday in Buffalo, NY at Erie Community College.
