The State University of New York at New Paltz is back in action for non-conference play Saturday after a successful opening spring in Florida.
Â
The Hawks entered the fall at 2-2 overall and split its four-game slate in Orlando, FL March 14-17 against tough non-conference opposition. Their spring season continues for its first match in the Northeast of 2022 as they travel to Wilkes-Barre, PA to take on the Colonels.
Â
Wilkes enters Saturday at 3-2 overall with wins over University of Scranton (7-2), Lebanon Valley (5-4) and Stevenson University (9-0). Before the Colonels face the Hawks at 4:30 p.m. they'll play Lafayette College at 9:30 a.m.Â
Â
Last season, Wilkes went 14-1 and won the MAC Freedom after defeating Stevens, 5-3 in the conference championship, which earned the Colonels an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament where they won their first-round match against Penn State Harris in a clean 5-0 sweep before their season ended against University of Mary Washington in the second round.
Â
The Hawks already have solid wins over NESCAC's Connecticut College, Colby Sawyer, which won the GNAC back in the fall, along with dominant victories over SUNY Cortland and SUNY Oswego in early September.
Â
The match between Wilkes and SUNY New Paltz will be the first between the two programs.
