CORTLAND, NY — The State University of New York at New Paltz swim teams kicked off the 2023-2024 season Saturday at the Pumpkin Relays hosted by SUNY Cortland. The meet was held at Cortland's Harriet-Holsten Pool and offers a series of traditional and three person relays for the beginning of the season. The men finished second and the women third out of four teams.
The women took second in the 800-yard freestyle relay (
Sierra DePry,
Amanda O'Brien,
Taylor Pazderski, and Abigail Dusseault) with a time of 8:54.68. The women placed third in the 300-yard breaststroke relay (Halea Duryea-Stern,
Naomi Levey, and
Shannon Corr) with a time of 4:00.06.
The men finished first in the 300-yard breaststroke relay (Alexander Gorzula,
Xavier Calderon, and
Luke Hoyt) with a time of 3:10.79. The men also took second in the 200-yard medley relay (Jack Wirth,
Luke Hoyt,
Steven Macaluso and
Antonio Vavalle) in a time of 1:42.27. The Hawks would also finish second in the 300-yard backstroke (Jack Wirth,
Paul Castner, and
Nick Brown) in a time of 2:58.62.

The Hawks will return on October 28 when they face host Union College and Bard College in a Tri-Match in Schenectady, NY at 1:00 PM.
