SUNY New Paltz Men's Volleyball Earns Four to AVCA All-North Region Team

New Paltz, NY —The American Volleyball Coaches Associations (AVCA) released its men's volleyball All-Region teams Tuesday with the State University of New York at New Paltz earning four selections to the All-North Region team.
 
Seniors John Ronan, Kyle Shaffer, Brendan Spulnick and Pat Wing earned AVCA All-Region recognition.
 
Ronan, a middle blocker from Massapequa, NY, enjoyed his second trip the All-UVC team, while also garnering All-Region honors this spring. He had a career-year in his final season with the Hawks, totaling career-bests in kills (167), while hitting .370 on the year with a team-leading 75 blocks.
 
Shaffer, a setter from Smithtown, NY, earned another trip to the All-UVC team along with All-Region honors while also finishing with a career season. He concluded his SUNY New Paltz career with 1,699 total assists, seventh most in program history as he finished with a career-high 981 assists on the year, averaging 9.34 assists per sets while adding 26 aces, 76 kills, hitting .321 with 134 digs — second most on the team — and 34 blocks.  
Brendan Spulnick
Spulnick, an outside hitter from Clifton Park, NY, was named to the UVC All-Tournament team, along with Second-Team All-UVC to go along with All-Region recognition. Spulnick became the team's new service aces leader this season and concludes his Hawks career with 204 total aces, five more than any other player in program history. He finished 2023 with 269 kills, second most on the team, averaging 3.02 kills per set while hitting a career-best .336 with 17 assists, 131 digs, 34 blocks and 63 aces with the latter tied for fourth most in single-season program history.
 
Wing, playing at opposite after two seasons at middle blocker, earned his second trip to First-Team All-UVC while garnering another All-Region nod. A 2022 All-American selection, Wing continued a prolific Hawks career by leading his team in kills (379), kills per set (3.99), points (439.5) and points per set (4.63), while hitting .286 with 34 aces, 127 digs and 45 blocks.
 
All but one selection from the All-North Region team was from the United Volleyball Conference with Vassar College's Andrew Kim named North Region Player of the Year and the Brewers' Richard Gary named North Region Coach of the Year.
