New Paltz, N.Y. — The State University of New York at New Paltz men's soccer team announced its incoming class for the 2023 season Monday.
The Hawks come off a season that saw them secure the third seed in the SUNYAC Playoffs and their second ever back-to-back postseason appearance — the first since 2011-12. The team graduated five players and is excited to welcome 10 newcomers, as the deep class will look to help their team secure another playoff berth in 2023 and compete for their first SUNYAC title in over 50 years.

Asher Block '27
Forward
Plainview, NY
Plainview-Old Bethpage-John F. Kennedy High School

In 2021, Block received All-Conference AA honors before leading his team to a 2022 Nassau County and Long Island Class AA championship.
Block was named to the All-New York State, All-Region, All-Nassau County, and the Newsday All-Long Island Second Teams. He earned himself both Conference Class AA Player of the Year and Nassau County Class AA Player of the Year honors, all while captaining Plainview as a junior and senior and as a freshman in 2019 earned the team's "I Got Your Back Award."
"I chose New Paltz because I think that it is a place where I can learn and grow for my future as a student and an athlete," said Block, who will enter SUNY New Paltz as a business major.
Block will be a welcome addition to the Hawks front line, which lacked a true striker last season with Block hoping to add in the scoring efforts and boost the team's scoring margin from just 1.53 goals per game last season.
Ryan Bochenski '26

After spending a year at SUNY Cortland, Bochenski joins the Hawks in 2023 and will provide depth both in the midfield and defensively.
The Eastchester, NY native was a four-year starter at Eastchester High School. In 2020, he was selected to the All-League team before leading his team to a Section I Class A final in 2021.
As a senior, Bochenski was named to All-League, All-Section I and All-New York State. He earned himself the league's Most Valuable Player award and was also named a LoHud Westchester/Putnam First-Team All-Star.
A multi-sport athlete, Bochenski received All-League Honorable Mention on two different occasions during his two years of playing basketball for the Eagles.
"I chose SUNY New Paltz because of the well-known education major and the competitive soccer program," said Bochenski, who will enter SUNY New Paltz as an adolescent education, history major.

Camuti, hailing from Franklin Square, NY joins the Hawks after starring for both H. Frank Carey High School and SUSA Albertson.
"I chose New Paltz because of the opportunity to continue playing the sport I love while getting a great education," Camuti said.

Kingston High School/Monroe College
Kingston Stockade FC
Harris played scholastic soccer for Kingston High School. He joins SUNY New Paltz after playing two seasons at the collegiate level for Monroe College in New York City.
The Kingston, NY Native also starred for Kingston Stockade FC U-23 team, playing alongside Hawks grad
Michael Horner. Harris, along with Block, will help fortify SUNY New Paltz up front.
"New Paltz made me feel like I was able to grow and get the proper education that I needed to succeed in life," said Harris.
Sam Snider '27

Oceanside High School

Because of his selection in the MLS Next League, Snider was not permitted to play for Oceanside High School. However, he did captain BW Gottschee FC in 2022 and 2023, and this past year, Sinder led his team to the 2023 MLS Next playoffs in Texas.
The Oceanside, NY native intends to study elementary education while at SUNY New Paltz.

Thomasson was a three-year varsity player for Connetquot High School and in 2022 led his team to a Suffolk County Class AA, Long Island Class AA championship, along with a NYSPHSAA Class semifinal appearance.
The Bohemia, NY native was a three-sport athlete, being named All-League in soccer in 2022, before earning All-Conference and All-Long Island honors in winter track and garnering All-Academic and All-League honors for baseball last spring.
Along with starring for the Hawks defensively this fall on the pitch, he will also suit up for coach Thomas Seay on the diamond this spring for the SUNY New Paltz baseball.
"I chose New Paltz because it was a perfect fit for me both athletically and academically," said Thomasson, who will enter the fall as a business major.
Steve Trombetta '27

In 2021, Trombetta was a starter on the Chiefs team that won the Olympic Conference and was named to the Olympic Conference Team as well as the American Division Second Team. The following year, Trombetta led the Chiefs to the NJSIAA State Group 4 state championship title. He was a rock on a defensive line that let in just 13 goals in 21 games and recorded 10 shutouts.
Trombetta was also a member of the track and field team, participating in sprint relays, high jump, and pole vault at Cherokee High School. He was named Second-Team All-Conference and All-State honorable mention in 2023, while also excelling in the classroom, being named to the National Honor and French Honor Societies.
Trombetta comes from a line of collegiate athletes, as his dad, Steve, competed for four seasons on the track and field team at Saint Joseph's University.
"I chose New Paltz because of its excellent academic reputation, variety of majors, and balance between academics and athletics," Trombetta said.
Joe Washington '27

Washington was a member of West Islip High School's 2021 NYSPHSAA Class AA State champions team with the Lions ranking 20th in the final USC national rankings.
In 2022, the West Islip, NY native was named to the All-League Team and was selected to participate in the 2022 SUffolk County Senior All-Star game. Washington was among the top 10 goalies in Suffolk County having recorded 123 saves, as he also earned Exceptional Senior and was a League champion in swimming.
Like Trombetta, Washington comes from a line of collegiate athletes, as his dad, Brian swam for four seasons at Division I Western Kentucky.
"I chose SUNY New Paltz because it checked all the boxes for me," Washington said. "New Paltz has a highly competitive program that competes for a title every year. The culture at New Paltz is both positive and inclusive providing me the best environment to reach my full potential as a student-athlete. Finally, New Paltz offers great academic courses and networking opportunities that will support me as I prepare for my future career."

Weber started in the midfield on the 2021 Conference A1 Co-Champions and was named to the All-Conference A1 First Team. In 2022, he starred for the Generals that ranked sixth on Long Island. He earned himself All-Nassau County Class A East First Team honors and was named the Nassau County Class A East Midfielder of the Year.
A dual-sport athlete, Weber earned All-County honors at MacArthur High School for track this past spring. His dad, Roger, was also a two-sport athlete, competing in both rugby and track at Union, while his brother, Timothy, currently runs cross country and track for Division I Stony Brook University.
"I chose New Paltz because of both its academic and athletic offerings," said Weber. "New Paltz has a great business program that will prepare me for my future while continuing to enjoy playing soccer. Coach Clancy made me feel very welcomed and I am looking forward to working with him and the team."
Weber will enter SUNY New Paltz as a Business major.

Yamamoto was a member of the 2019 NYSPHSAA Class AA State champions at Monroe High School. In 2021, he started on the Crusaders team that were named the Section IX Class champions and was an All-Section IX and All-Class AA selection.
Most recently, he was named to the 2022 All-Section IX, All-Class AA, and Varsity 845 Elite 11 teams, along with receiving the team's Most Valuable Player award.
Yamamoto played for the Hudson Valley Hammers in the summer of 2022 and currently plays for the Kingston Stockade FC Futures.
"I chose New Paltz for its proximity to home, promising soccer program, and because it has my intended major," Yamamoto said.
