Potsdam, NY — The State University of New York New Paltz men's and women's swimming teams competed on the campus of Clarkson University against the hosting Golden Knights and Potsdam Bears Tuesday.
The Hawks placed second behind Clarkson on both the men's and women's side. The Golden Knights defeated SUNY New Paltz on the men's side, 189-47 and 157-76 on the women's, while he Hawks beat Potsdam 276-98 and 137-58, respectively.
SUNY New Paltz placed second in the 200-meter medley relay to begin the meet, as the quartet of
Sage Vadney,
Brianna Law,
Candela Sandoval and
Molly Snyder clocked in with a time of 2 minutes, 18.99 seconds, about four seconds behind Clarkson.
Antonio Vavalle placed second in the men's 800-meter freestyle, coming in with a time of 9:21.46 with the Golden Knights' Casey Everet placing first in 9:10.73. Vavalle earned another second-place finish in the 400-freestyle (4:23.05). Snyder and Law placed third and fourth, respectively in the 50-meter freestyle with times of 31.06 and 31.26, while Paul Caster touched third on the men's side with a time of 25.70.
Law placed second in the 200-individual medley (2:46.18), behind Clarkson's Fiona Reilly (2:37.46) with Hawks Sandoval and
Chloe Jeffares following with times of 2:47.37 and 2:49.41, respectively.
Snyder added a second-place finish in the 100-butterfly, clocking in with a time of 1:16.17 about five seconds behind the Bears' Kenzie Cerny (1:11.55).
Sophia Bucci also added a second-place finish, coming in just behind Clarkson's Gabriela McSwieney (1:05.42) in the women's 100-freestyle with a time of 1:09.84.
Vadney garnered another second place standing, clocking in at 1:16.91 in the 100-backstroke, while
Jack Wirth claimed SUNY New Palz's only first-place finish as he registered a time of 1:01.64 in the men's 100-backstroke, about two seconds faster than the Golden Knights' Mason Cartier (1:03.54).
SUNY New Paltz ended the night with back-to-back second place finishes in the men's and women's 200-freestyle relay.
Abigail Keiser, Jeffares,
Naomi Levey and
Erin Donovan recorded a time of 2:09.58 on the women's side, while
Diego Burgos, Wirth,
Xavier Calderon and Vavalle was two seconds from Clarkson on the men's side with a time of 1:45.35.
The Hawks are back on the road Saturday competing against SUNY Cortland in a dual meet starting at 1 p.m.
