Former SUNY New Paltz Men’s Soccer Coach Al Miller Named to the 2026 United Soccer Coaches Hall of Fame Class

Kansas City, MO — The United Soccer Coaches announced the selection of its recent members of its 2026 Hall of Fame Class Thursday with former State University of New York New Paltz men's soccer coach and Hawks Hall of Famer Al Miller earning the honor alongside Craig Weing, Steven Sampson and Randy Waldrum.

The four individuals become the 86th, 87th and 89th inductees to be added to the United Soccer Coaches Hall of Fame, which was established in 1991 to honor achievements in coaching, their work on behalf of the association and lifetime contributions to the game of soccer.

Miller, a former two-time All-American at East Stroudsburg State University, began his coaching tenure at SUNY New Paltz in 1961 leading the Hawks to a conference championship and NCAA national Tournament. The 1965 season in particular was a legendary run, still holding as the winningest in program history, as the team went 12-1 and became NCAA Atlantic Coast Champions.

Miller, the inaugural coach at SUNY New Paltz, was named as a Walt Chyzowych Lifetime Achievement Award recipient in 2019 and in a part of the SUNY New Paltz Athletics 1982 Hall of Fame Class. In 1995, Miller was inducted into the Hartwick Athletics Hall of Fame (where he coached for six seasons following his stint at New Paltz), along with the National Soccer Hall of Fame.
