Syracuse, NY — The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) announced its 2025 Women's Tennis Scholar Athlete of the Year Friday with Hawks senior
Isabel van der Veen being named to the prestigious honor.
Van der Veen joins four other Hawks who earned the SUNYAC Scholar Athlete of the Year mantle this past year for their respective sport which includes senior Rachel Eisert (women's soccer), grad student Julia Sabatino (women's basketball), junior Lexi Atwater (women's lacrosse) and senior Tommy Kreider (baseball).
The SUNYAC Scholar Athlete of the Year honors student-athletes in each respective sport for their prowess both in the classroom and on the field. To be eligible, student-athletes must sustain at least a 3.30 GPA and demonstrate academic and athletic excellence, must be a starter or significant role player and at least a sophomore in standing.
Van der Veen captained SUNY New Paltz to its third-straight SUNYAC title and third consecutive appearance in the NCAA Tournament where they earned a win on the national stage. The senior had arguably her best year to-date, being named First-Team All-SUNYAC in both singles play, competing primarily at third singles, and doubles where she played at ones with partner
Justine Stanejko. The duo was additionally named as the SUNYAC Doubles Team of the Year after going undefeated in the conference.
Van der Veen excelled outside of the court as well, as the dual major in both Business Analytics and Digital Media Management was named as a 2025 SUNY New Paltz President's Award for Student Excellence recipient, while also earning a spot on the SUNYAC Commissioner's List for each of her four seasons, along with being a Chi Alpha Sigma National Honor Society inductee.
