NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – After clinching the No. 1 seed in the East Division of the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) over the weekend, the State University of New York at New Paltz women's tennis team will host three-time defending SUNYAC champion SUNY Geneseo on Friday, Sept.12, at 3:30 p.m. and The College of Brockport on Saturday, Sept. 13, at 1 p.m.
 
SCOUTING THE HAWKS (4-0): This past weekend at SUNY Cortland, the Hawks defeated the host Red Dragons, 9-0, SUNY Oneonta, 7-2, and SUNY Plattsburgh, 9-0, to grab the No. 1 seed for the SUNYAC East Division into the SUNYAC Tournament, which runs from Oct. 10-12 in Binghamton, N.Y... Freshman Brittany Grandville is 4-0 at flight one singles... Grandville and sophomore Olivia Ammirati are 4-0 at flight three doubles... Newcomer Carol Tyson is 3-0 at flight four singles... Classmate Sara O'Brien is 3-0 in No. 5 singles... Senior co-captain Jessica Schmidt is 3-0 at flight three singles... Junior Laura Tierney is 3-0 at No. 6 singles... Schmidt and junior Allie Starke are 3-0 at flight one doubles... Friday's match with Geneseo pits the SUNYAC champions of the past dozen seasons, as either New Paltz or the Knights have captured the title during that span... The Hawks' last regular-season win versus Geneseo occurred on Sept. 14, 2012, at the North Tennis Courts, with New Paltz winning, 5-4.
 
SCOUTING THE KNIGHTS (3-0): Geneseo, the SUNYAC champions for the past three seasons, has started the fall with three straight wins versus SUNY Oswego, Nazareth College and Brockport... Juniors Marylen Santos and Cat Crummey are 5-1 at flight one doubles... Senior Amanda Rosati and sophomore Karli Hollins are 4-1 at flight two doubles, while sophomore Maggie Hale and senior Dexuan Yuan are 4-1 at flight three... In singles, junior Mai Hashimoto is 6-0 at No. 6... Santos is 5-1 at flight one... Crummey is 4-1 at No. 2 and Rosati is 4-1 at No. 3... Hashimoto was named the inaugural SUNYAC Player of the Week for the period ending Sept. 7.
SCOUTING THE GOLDEN EAGLES (3-1): Brockport won its first three matches of the fall, defeating St. John Fisher College, SUNY Fredonia and Alfred University before falling to Geneseo on Tuesday... In doubles, seniors Rachel Lamont and Lauren Bohman are 2-0 at flight one... Junior Natasha Hale and sophomore Elizabeth O'Rourke are 2-0 at flight three... In singles, Lamont is 3-0 at flight one... Sophomore Sam Malak is 3-0 at No. 3 and No. 4... O'Rourke is 3-0 at flights four and five... Junior Meghan Storie is 3-0 at No. 5 and No. 6.
LAST MEETINGS: New Paltz fell, 5-1, to Geneseo in last year's SUNYAC title match on Oct. 13, 2013. I New Paltz blanked Brockport, 9-0, when the two squads last met on Sept. 14, 2013.

WHAT'S NEXT: The Hawks play at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on Saturday, Sept. 20, at 1 p.m. before taking part in the Vassar Tournament on Sunday, Sept. 21, at 9 a.m... Geneseo plays at SUNY Oneonta on Saturday, Sept. 13, at 10 a.m... Brockport hosts Roberts Wesleyan College at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 18.
