Box Score Oswego, NY — The State University of New York at New Paltz women's tennis team continued its dominance against the SUNYAC conference with another 9-0 win at Oswego State Saturday.
The Hawks (2-0), playing back-to-back days against SUNYAC competition, went into both conference matches and dominated for an excellent start to their season. SUNY New Paltz has not lost a regular season SUNYAC match since the 2017-18, and has won all but one regular season match in the same timeframe.
Second and third doubles were both 8-0 sweeps for the Hawks. Junior Onalee Batcheller and senior Alexandra Dratch defeated the Lakers' Jenna Wilson and Debora Win, while freshman Isabel van der Veen and sophomore Loretta Donovan beat Mattie Wallace and Rafaela Dimitrakopoulou. In first doubles, senior Trinity Chow and freshman Anya Barteck would take an 8-1 victory against Miryam Makutonin and Alyx Sperling.
SUNY New Paltz' singles resulted in four different 6-0, 6-0 sweeps, including freshmen Barteck and van der Veer in second and fourth singles, respectively, continuing their impressive starts to their collegiate careers. Sophomore Tatiana Barnett and senior Alex Chimenti also swept the Lakers' Dimitrakopoulou and Mattie Wallace in fifth and sixth singles, respectively. Chow and Batcheller played first and third singles against Makutonin and Sperling, sweeping their first sets, then winning their second sets 6-2 to complete SUNY New Paltz's second straight sweep to start the 2021-22 campaign.
"A very strong performance coming off the Cortland win," said Hawks coach Rob Bruley. "Was very pleased with the strong showing in doubles, executing patterns of play we have been working on in practice. Our singles line up coming out blazing and everyone put in a very strong performance to secure our second SUNYAC conference win of the season."
The win also marks the Hawks' last SUNYAC competition until the spring season. The remaining nine matches on it's fall schedule consists of out-of-conference matchups against some of the best tennis programs in the northeast, ending with the New Paltz Scramble against Union and Ramapo on Sept. 25.
SUNY New Paltz returns to action Wednesday when they head south to Ewing, NJ to face The College of New Jersey Lions. The match is scheduled to start at 2 p.m.
