Poughkeepsie, NY —The State University of New York at New Paltz cross country team opened up its season Thursday at the annual Vassar Season Starter.
Along with the Hawks and hosting Brewers, NYU, Stevens, Union and Mount Saint Mary College competed on both sides. SUNY New Paltz placed fourth in the women's 3K.
Kate Cochran finished third overall to lead the Hawks with a sub-11-minute time.
Marcella Candlin followed in 20th with a time of 12:04.3 with
Lillian Stephenson and
Emily Gonzalez not too far behind in 27
th and 33rd with times of 12:35.2 and 12:56, respectively. The Hawks then had their next seven runners finish 38th through 45
th with sub-14 times.
Hans Hilson-Schneider led the men's side with a time of 13.52.4 to place 45th overall.
Vincent Mandraccia and
Gavin Bowers followed in 57th and 58th with times of 14.41.4 and 14:45.3, respectively.
Joe Palazzolo rounded out the scoring for SUNY New Paltz on the men's side, finishing with a time of 16:10.6.
Evan LaBelle did not finish, losing one of his spikes and needing to step off the course before finishing.
The Hawks return to Vassar next weekend when they compete in the annual Ron Stonitsch Invitational Sept. 10.
