The United Volleyball Conference announced its All-Academic Team for the 2023 season with fifth-year seniors
Dan LaRosa,
John Ronan and
Kyle Shaffer all earning a spot on the annual list.
The UVC All-Academic List recognized 55 student-athletes across the conference's seven full time member institutions for their excellence in the classroom. Recipients must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of at least a 3.30 following the completion of the most recent spring semester, along with being at least a sophomore academically, display positive conduct on and off campus and be enrolled as a full-time member at their respective institution.
LaRosa, Ronan and Shaffer were key members to the Hawks for the duration of their time with the program. LaRosa and Ronan were both members of the program's 2019 national title and UVC Championship runs, while Shaffer transferred from Division II Lewis University and took the reigns as team captain and the team's starting setter from all-time assists leader Matt Grace following the 2021 season.
LaRosa also captained SUNY New Paltz the last two years and contributed at nearly every position on the floor, stepping in as a libero, outside hitter and setter throughout the 2023 season to help his team to a UVC semifinal appearance. Shaffer and Ronan, meanwhile, landed on the All-UVC team and enjoyed a trip to the AVCA All-North Region squad following standout individual seasons on the court.
The trio each earned spots on the Hawks Academic Honor Roll for both the fall and spring semesters, which recognizes Hawks student-athletes with at least a 3.40 GPA in each respective semester.
