Session 4 Results

EAST MEADOW, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz women's swimming team finished out the 2010 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Winter Championships in fourth place out of 13 teams with 1,031 points after the third and final day of the event Sunday morning at the Nassau County Aquatics Center.

Stony Brook University did the unthinkable by edging the Stevens Institute of Technology for the team title. In a 20-event, championship-scored meet, Stony Brook won by half of a point, besting Stevens, 1,592.50-1,592. State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) rival SUNY Geneseo placed third with 1,470 points.

Michelle Rodriguez of Geneseo was named the Female Swimmer of the Meet, while head coach Trevor Miele of Stevens was named the Female Swimming Coach of the Meet. Cassie Brown of Geneseo was tabbed as the Female Diver of the Meet, while Shawn Austin of Geneseo and Brian Yodice of Stony Brook shared Female Diving Coach of the Meet honors.

The Hawks took fourth in each of their relays on the day. Sophomore Yuka Suzuka (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.), senior Becky Baker (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.), sophomore Carly Marshall (Cornwall, N.Y.) and junior Christine Rieth (Penfield, N.Y.) teamed up for a 4:01.08 in the 400 medley relay, while seniors Allison Wells (Shelton, Conn.), Jessica Lester (Long Beach, N.Y.) and Marissa Morris (Toms River, N.J.) and Rieth combined for a 3:39.54 in the 400 freestyle relay.

Lester, Morris and freshman Chelsea Allocco (Chatham, N.J.) all placed among the top 10 in the 500 freestyle's 29-person field. Lester took sixth in 5:13.36, Morris finished eighth in 5:14.29 and Allocco claimed ninth in 5:15.01.

In the 50 freestyle, two Hawks finished in the top 10. Rieth covered the “splash and dash” in 24.99 to take sixth, while Wells uncorked a 25.18 to place ninth. Eighty-six people contested the event.

Finally, Marshall and Morris each turned in impressive marks in the 200 individual medley. Marshall was New Paltz's top finisher, taking fifth out of 59 participants with a time of 2:12.82, while Morris clocked a 2:14.57 to come in ninth overall.

The Hawks will have a one-month layoff from competition before squaring off with Geneseo and the Rochester Institute of Technology in a tri-meet from Jan. 14-15, 2011, in Geneseo, N.Y.
